Black Angels
You might have trouble distinguishing this band from other "Black" bands out there, like, say, Black Mountain or Black Lips, to name a couple. The Austin outfit's motto is "turn on, tune in, drone out" and they travel with a live film and overhead projectionist, so as you can imagine there's a heavy stoner rock vibe here, along with a psychedelic Doors influence—while of course the band is named after a Velvet Underground song. This show at LES landmark Angel Orensanz Foundation was in celebration of the band's new album "Phosphene Dream"—out September 14 on re-launched Blue Horizon Records.
