Rock Lottery
On Saturday morning 25 individual band members from 25 individual bands showed up at the Knitting Factory to assemble 5 new bands. After some quick introductions these bands of mostly strangers retreated back to five studio spaces to write songs together for 12 hours, and then return to the club that night to perform them.
Metromix got to follow some of the bands to the studio to watch them work, and the day was characterized by lots of big smiles, messing up chord progressions and basically the indie-tastic grown up version of the most rockin' high school workshop on how to be a band. Later that night on stage, some of that stuff actually sounded pretty great, but the best part was the greater sense of musical community built up that night as some really disparate folks were paired up in some unexpected ways. And all of it for charity! (Proceeds raised went to World Savvy.)
