Broadcast and Atlas Sound
One of the most interesting pairings of the week, Broadcast and Atlas Sound (a.k.a. Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox) may not seem like sonically the most appropriate bill. The former is a UK electronic group that originally swam in the same fractured pop waters as Stereolab—before embracing a more up-tempo, electro-based sound. The latter is a singer-songwriter who wrote deceivingly simple, gorgeous ballads in his bedroom. Together, though, both acts have consistently and gloriously operated on the fringes of pop music, crafting melodic tracks that are always rough around the edges.
