Maximum Balloon
Over the years radio promotions company AAM has long thrown one of the better leftfield-meets-Pitchfork-approved showcases—combining proven "college radio" bands with relative unknowns. On Saturday afternoon, when not chowing on gratis veggie dogs, we caught Francis and the Lights (we know you), Ty Segall (one of the big breakthroughs of the week), Magic Bullets (very pleasant XTC update), Jaill (Wisconsin guitar nerds), and garage-rock spazzes Crocodiles. Dave Sitek side project Maximum Balloon closed the showcase with what we would describe as a live remix of his standout self-titled album.
