A record-setting performance by the 'maus-eared musician
Tuesday night Joel Zimmerman, a.k.a. deadmau5, kicked off a record-breaking, six-night run at New York's Roseland Ballroom for his Meowington's Hax tour, breaking the venue's five-night record previously set by Rage Against the Machine. Before the show Live Nation presented the be-helmeted performer with a plaque commemorating the occasion, and his record label Ultra threw in another plaque for achieving gold record status for his single "Ghosts 'n' Stuff." Bonus: there was cake, from Carlo's Bakery of "Cake Boss" fame. (Not to be one-upped, deadmau5 also debuted a brand new, fan-designed helmet with Swiss cheese ears.) As for his concert....Hitting the stage around 11 p.m. and playing until just after 1, the show gave everyone in day-glo "mau5" ears, "copymau5" helmets and neon attire plenty of reasons to dance. With guest appearances from vocalist Sofi, and opening acts Alex English and Excision.--Gabi Porter
