Dropkick Murphys and Against Me! l Roseland Ballroom
Being a wildly successful Irish-American punk band, playing two arena shows in New York and doing so a week before St. Patrick's Day...you'd think that would be enough for some bands. Nope—the Dropkick Murphys were apparently hoping for a Springsteen cameo. on Thursday night at Roseland. "You never who's gonna join you on stage," DM bassist/vocalist Ken Casey said, right after blitzing through his band's new track "Peg O' My Heart" (whch, on the record, did feature Bruce Springsteen on vocals). While there were no big-name cameos this night, the Murphys delivered their usual manic blend of anthemic, singalong hardcore, concentrating on their new record "Going Out in Style" (which we heart) and ending with the crowd on stage for "Kiss Me I'm Shitfaced," "Skinhead on the MBTA" and "Citizen CIA."
Openers Against Me!, meanwhile, were leaner, faster and heavier than usual, roaring through their catalog with barely a breath between songs. It was an inspired set -- and one that should be all the more chaotic when they play the miniscule Mercury Lounge on Saturday. SEE FULL GALLERY
