A night of beautiful people, free vodka and New Wave hits
Free vodka! Duran Duran! Actually certified beautiful people! There wasn't a lot to complain about on Wednesday night at Good Units, the cozy club below the Hudson Hotel, when Paper magazine (in conjunction with Absolut vodka) celebrated the release of its annual "Beautiful People" issue. Comedian/actor Aziz Ansari ("Parks and Recreation") hosted the event, with Simon Le Bon and co. as the special musical guests; the band split its hour set evenly between hits ("Planet Earth," "Ordinary World," "Hungry Like the Wolf") and tracks from their new, pretty good new album "All You Need is Now." Helping the night out immensely: the gratis booze, which centered on three cocktails made from Absolut's new flavor, Wild Tea. And guess what? The audience was, for the most part, pretty beautiful, and featured a nice mix of indie-minded celebs, including members of Grizzly Bear, Twin Shadow and Cobra Starship, as well as Adrienne Bailon, Erin Featherston, Justin Bond, Diane Birch and more. The biggest complaint of the night? That DD didn't play "Rio" (awwwww). —Kirk Miller
