Electric Zoo 2011
(Check out part one of our gallery here).
This weekend over 85,000 electronic music fans, ravers and people who like to wear their underwear outdoors gathered on Randall's Island for three days of the Electric Zoo. Headliners of the dance fest included Ibiza megastars Tiesto, David Guetta and Armin van Buuren, with featured sets from Moby, Rusko, Sebastian and hot newcomer Skrillex, who popped up from behind the towering DJ booth and was greeted with an ear-splitting roar from the few thousand people gathered at the Hilltop Arena. There was a surprise interlude from DJ Snoopadelic (a.k.a. Snoop Dogg), while odd-men-out Chromeo brought actual instruments to Sunday's mainstage, playing a live set with Dave 1 telling the crowd he's always wanted to play "Don't Turn the Lights On" at sunset...and getting his wish.
The food scene was amped up this year. We enjoyed three days of Roberta's pizza, but the choices were dizzying, Asia Dog, Rickshaw's Dumpling Truck, Pizzamoto, the Frying Dutchmen and Chelsea Market's Bar Suzette, which was serving up crepes. --Gabi Porter
