Grandeur and heaviness from the chart-topping metal band
Singer Amy Lee remains the only original member of the Arkansas metal band (best known for their 2002 hit “Bring Me to Life”), which took five years to craft a follow-up to 2006’s platinum “The Open Door.” Given all of the time, effort and apparent conflict that went into the group’s third record, their self-titled new effort “Evanescence” is exactly what you’d expect from the band: soaring vocals, symphonic metal with dark gothic touches, and nu-metal riffs. Not that there’s anything wrong with those elements—there’s a grandeur here lacking in most modern hard rock, and Lee’s vocal gymnastics rightfully take center stage. Tuesday, the band headlined Terminal 5 with up-and-coming rockers Rival Sons and The Pretty Reckless.
