Meandering between post-punk, math rock, Brit pop and killing it on stage
British quintet Foals combine upbeat, jumpy pop with slower, spacier numbers for a sound that meanders between post-punk, math rock and traditional British pop. After hooking up with, and subsequently reworking, Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio's mix for their 2008 debut "Antidotes," the group returned in full quiet anthems-meets-dancefloor mode with last year's "Total Life Forever." Queens folk/baroque pop quintet Freelance Whales released their debut album "Weathervanes" last year, but the band continues to ride the momentum of the critically acclaimed album. Their quiet, folk hit "Generator First Floor" has become a music licensing dream, having appeared in ads for Twitter, Chevrolet and, most recently, Starbucks as well as "Chuck."
