Foxy Shazam
If it's Wednesday and your frontman's eating cigarettes on-stage, defying gravity and jumping on top of guitarists (and audience members), it must be a Foxy Shazam show. The Cincinnati rockers, a current favorite of ours and a stand-out at SXSW, didn't disappoint during their second sold-out NYC show (Monday's concert at the Studio at Webster Hall, last night at the Knitting Factory). Imagine...well, comparisons are hard for a band that mixes pomp rock, goofy piano lines, punk rock energy and a mustachioed, cocky frontman with a knack for non-sequiters. Maybe The Darkness via Meat Loaf? Funk-rockers Bad Rabbits and The Young Veins, a Beatlesque crew featuring former members of Panic at the Disco, opened.--Kirk Miller
