Epic pop from the buzzy new band that lives up to its name
It's (annoyingly) hard NOT to use the word "fun" when describing the band fun. (yes, lower case, with a period). What could have been just a random side project for three successful musicans--singer Nate Ruess (The Format), Jack Antonoff (Steel Train) and Andrew Dost (Anathallo)--has turned into a full-time band, one on the verge of pop stardom (check out their first single "We Are Young" with Janelle Monae). The group pays homage to '60s and '70s rock, with a lot of Queen, a touch of Ben Folds and a some modern touches a la Panic! at the Disco. Wednesday, the trio performed with an Arcade Fire-level of back-up support (keyboards! strings! horns!) for a sold-out show at the Bowery Ballroom, previewing material from their 2012 album "Some Nights."
