Before the Insane Clown Posse ever earned their monumental following while virtually remaining invisible to the mainstream, GWAR, a bizarre, bloody, graphic and often comedic hard rock band had brought thousands to shows without almost any popular identity. Small and middle-sized towns and cities have embraced them since the mid-80’s, and even with the way-overboard costumes, obscene yet often obvious songs and garish skits they put on, we—in our high-minded metropolis—have supported their singular freakouts. Last night, they conquered Irving Plaza. And yes, there was blood.
