Gory metal slays Williamsburg
"Thank you! Shut up." As far as stage banter goes, that was definitely the nicest comment of the night offered up by GWAR's Oderus Urungus. When the shock-metal band frontman, a self-described intergalactic barbarian from Scumdogia (or a guy named Dave Brockie), wasn't berating the Williamsburg crowd on Sunday, he was on more of a physical rampage...be it slicing up the band with his sword (two beheadings before the first song ended!), maiming a Lady Gaga impersonator wearing a giant toilet, spraying the crowd with gallons of fake blood and running through a litany of tasteless jokes. When not under assault, the rest of the group—including Beefcake the Mighty, Flattus Maximus, Balsac the Jaws of Death and Jizmak Da Gusha—tore through an impressive catalog of gore-metal anthems, ending with the classic "Sick of You." With Mensrea and Mobile Deathcamp. --Kirk Miller
