Country, speed metal and doom rock—together at last
While part of an impressive country pedigree, Hank3 (grandson of Hank Williams, son of Hank Jr.) embraces heavier musical vibes for his own projects (which includes Hellbilly, Attention Defecit Domination and Assjack, the first two on display this tour). On his four (!) new records, the singer delivers an amped-up set of banjo/fiddle/accordion-flavored country-punk, as well as Cajun, noise, backwoods folk and, um, cattle auction samples set over Sabbath-y riffs. Wednesday, all of this and more was all on display at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, with Hank3 starting the set in a six-piece, traditional country set-up...and ending the show as a masked, speed metal trio, igniting a hellacious pit. —Kirk Miller
