Holy Ghost!
In many ways, one could argue that Brooklyn duo Holy Ghost! is really taking it cues from Yaz and New Order—as the band's pacing and personality feels more synth-alt dance than descended from KC and the Sunshine Band--but listen more carefully, and hear the production that drove early Madonna, the kind of electro that Donna Summer used in “I Feel Love” and Blondie incorporated in “Heart of Glass.” In other words, this is post-Studio 54, pre-house disco a la the 21st Century—and therein lies the magic, no? Last night, they played the Bowery Ballroom with Jessica 6 (missed 'em? Catch 'em in November at the Music Hall of Williamsburg).
