The big news here was supposed to be that the post-punk revivalists were back on indie label Matador after a single-LP dalliance with Capitol Records. But, alas, bassist Carlos “Carlos D” Dengler had to go and quit just after this album’s recording sessions were completed. Given that basslines count among the most important elements of the group’s sound (along with frontman Paul Banks’ monotone vocal delivery and a little effect called reverb), Dengler’s departure shocked Interpol fans. We'll call this secret-ish show at Music Hall of Williamsburg a re-introduciton of sorts. With CloudlandCANYON.
