Holidays Rule album
Many artists see holiday albums as opportunities to revert to musical styles of previous generations. There's some of that on this compilation, but most of the acts, which include hitmakers fun. and indie-folk favorites the Civil Wars, hardly take traditional approaches to the material. Instead, they try to find new ways to present it. So while Paul McCartney offers up a warm, jazzy rendition of 'The Christmas Song,' The Shins borrow ideas from Brian Wilson as they remake McCartney's 'Wonderful Christmastime.'
