An all-star benefit for the DJ extraordinaire (and all-around great guy)
We couldn't believe the news when we heard that one of our favorite party throwers and DJs, Jonathan Toubin, was horribly injured in a crazy accident in Portland, OR last week--but when the outpouring of love and warm wishes from his friends and fans all over the country and benefits to help pay his medical bills started popping up all over the place, we can't say we were surprised. To have met Jonathan is to like Jonathan, if not to love Jonathan. As we heard over and over last night at last night's benefit at Brooklyn Bowl, he's "just the nicest f***in' guy in the world." He is. And his party throwing abilities and booty-shaking music selections are legendary. Last night was arguably the biggest benefit to date: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs headlined the night, with Karen O in a Santa suit; Jon Spencer's rockabilly band, Heavy Trash played a set, Tunde Adebimpe from TV on the Radio was there as one half of Stabbing Eastward, Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers DJed, as well as Billy Miller from Norton Records. We even caught Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse) bobbing his head in the back near the bar. Get well soon, Jonathan. We want to see you back behind the decks at a Soul Clap very soon! —Gabi Porter
