A heavy dose of proggy, brutal metal
For over a decade now, Atlanta's Mastodon have been practically the only band of their generation carrying the torch for progressive, arena-friendly heavy metal in which both the ideas and guitar solos strive to achieve epic proportions. Their fifth album, the just-released "The Hunter," is the band's most melodic and accessible set to date—but live, even the new tracks spread out in proggy, psychedelic directions. Saturday, the band headlined Terminal 5 with Dillinger Escape Plan and Red Fang.
