Paul Simon (7)
PAUL SIMON (7): Before Michael Jackson, Paul Simon (right, pictured with Art Garfunkel) had the biggest Grammy sweep in 1971. The Simon & Garfunkel album 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' earned him seven awards, including two each for album and record of the year, because he was both artist and co-producer. (A rule change in 1980 prevents artists from earning an extra award for producing their own album.) " 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' was one of the biggest hits of the 1970s, and an instant classic" with hits like 'Cecilia' and 'El Condor Pasa,' says Grein. "The album deserved the sweep."
