Ted Leo and DOM answer our hot and sweat questions. Plus, Matt and Kim, Surfer Blood and Screaming Females.
For ten years now, Village Voice has hosted an annual festival at Coney Island that, as Ted Leo noted during his performance Saturday, "continuously supports the scene." It's a very simple equation to continuously support the scene. You pay local (and locally loved) bands to play on two nearby stages. You pick bands that you like, sometimes taking a risk that the band will never be heard from again (see previous lineups for many examples). You charge nothing.
This year brought some favored alumni back to the Surf and Stillwell stages—and some new faces—including Matt and Kim, Holy Fuck, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Earl Greyhound, DOM, Harlem, Screaming Females, Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Surfer Blood. —Interviews by Matt Rodbard; photos by Ryan Muir
