Mixing 4/4 house rhythms and indie chic. What a fine mix.
It sounds like a bad date: he's from Florida and used to front a hardcore band. She used to be a singer in a teenage girl group. But somehow, the duo of songwriter/producer Derek Miller and vocalist Alexis Krauss make it work as Sleigh Bells, the scuzzed-out lo-fi pop duo that owes as much to 4/4 house rhythms as indie chic. Krauss sounds like she's yelling into a child's CB radio from the 1950s (that's a compliment), and now that the duo is handling outside production for M.I.A. and others, it's only a matter of time before A-list status occurs. Sex, drugs and rock & roll by-way-of Brazil, CSS give the indie-rock crowd a reason to let loose—or at least move their feet from side to side a little. Led by potential art-rock icon Lovefoxxx, this band wants you to throw your hands in the air. Live, they flourish. With Mr. Dream.
