Haunting, cinematic rock from Brooklyn
The Antlers' 2009 breakthrough album "Hospice" was a deeply harrowing affair—a loose narrative based on topics like emotional abuse and terminal illness—but the beauty lay in frontman Peter Silberman's arresting and ethereal falsetto. "Burst Apart," the group's follow-up, is practically a cheerful jaunt in comparison, containing little of the crushing emotional weight and gravity of its successor. Having boldly debuted the record in its entirety at a SXSW show back in March, the band is now just hitting its stride and perfecting their brand of haunting, cinematic rock. Keep the Prozac handy just in case, though. With Suuns.
