The Black Lips | Webster Hall
With the Mark Ronson-produced album "Arabia Mountain" on the horizon (get excited!) and a couple singles and videos out already, The Black Lips swaggered back into New York City last night for a balls-to-the-wall show that refused to acknowledge the soggy weather outside. With a stage decked out like a taco stand (what was with all the fiesta themed party tsotchkes?), the band brought the party at Webster Hall.
Halfway through the set rolls of crepe were tossed out into the crowd, quickly followed by giant rolls of toilet paper when the party favors ran out, which ended up in hilarious irony when there wasn't any tee-pee left in the dressing room after the show. Whoops. Opener the Vivian Girls are getting better and better-we used to think they were a bit drony, but they are starting to grow into their sha-la-la girl group aesthetic, while still making it sound like their own. Brooklynites-by-way-of Iran, Yellow Dogs opened the show. Afterward everyone piled into cabs in the rain to whoop it up at Don Hill's, sadly without Don. SEE COMPLETE GALLERY
