The Damned Things
What good can happen when members of disparate bands like Fall Out Boy (Joe Trohman, Andy Hurley), Anthrax (Scott Ian, Rob Caggiano) and Every Time I Die (Keith Buckley, Josh Newton) decide to jam? Apparently, a lot of good. Anyone expecting The Damned Things to deliver some grotesque mutation of pop-punk, thrash and Southern-tinged hardcore should be relieved—the group ignores its band members’ pasts, concentrating its energy on riffs. Lots, and lots, of heavy riffs, with enough melody to suggest a radio hit or two may in the happening. Nothing original, but overall the group would sound damned nice sandwiched between Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath, especially last night at Rebel NYC. Were you snapped?
