Ambitious folkies bring their rootsy, pop-oriented jams to Prospect Park
Having spent years as darlings in the indie scene—particularly amongst those with a fondness for tall tales and wacky wordplay—there was some concern when the Decemberists jumped to a major label that they would lose some of their eccentricities. Instead, frontman Colin Meloy and co. have pushed in the opposite direction—and when you start using phrases like “rock opera,” you’ve probably pushed a little too hard. Perhaps predictably, this year's “The King Is Dead” arrived with the promise of getting back to basics. Nobody can disagree that is was a good move. With Best Coast.
