With Beach House
Over ten years, two EPs and five albums, The National has gone from post-punk revivalists to mournful rock scene leaders and Google ad soundtrackers. Frontman Matt Berninger's ominous baritone perfectly coalesces with the band's cold, inspired rhythms, as no other band makes gloomier music you can actually dance to (Sorry Interpol.) The group's new release "High Violet," returns to the big endings and screamed choruses that made debut "Alligator" so popular. Here they played on home turf with a dramatic gig for thousands at Prospect Park. With Beach House.
