Cafe Society
"Continental" cuisine conjures up vague images of Howard Johnson buffets and chefs who slap on the name because of lack of focus. Neither is really true at Chat 'N Chew-er Andrew Silverman's trendy eatery, which replaced his Steak Frites (which moved downtown) but maintains its key location just off Union Square. As expected, the crowd combines chic Euro tourists with pretty young scenesters (a la nearby Coffee Shop), and the menu caters to them—French and Asian flavors influence the global menu, from pork meatballs to sushi—as does the long-legged cocktail bar.
