Frankie & Johnnies Steakhouse

One of New York City's time-honored steakhouses, Frankies & Johnnies is also one of the city's three remaining original Prohibition-era speakeasies. Although admittance is straightforward now (make a reservation, walk through the door, be seated), in the late '20s and early '30s you used to have to tap on an unmarked door, say "Frankie," and wait for someone inside to respond "Johnnie" before you'd be allowed to enter and booze it up.
