Toby's qualifications as a culinary judge escape me. The UK has never been known for its' food - - except to deliver a well-deserved bashing. So who is he, that he should be chosen to judge the culinary subtleties of a competition like "Top Chef"?

I would say most probably. Ted Allen is now hosting his own cooking competition show on the Food Network called Chopped. Since he is the host and not a judge, it was probably a non-compete thing...
