Annisa’s Anita Lo must be bracing for a busy season: Aside from
prepping the winter debut of her new Asian barbecue joint, Q, she and
partner Kenny Lao are opening a second outpost of their popular
Rickshaw Dumpling Bar, on East Eighth Street. “NYU was an obvious
choice,” she says of the new location, which is perfectly poised to
make a killing among the NYU set with its chump-change prices and
chomp-and-go vibe. “It’s a very college-friendly concept, it’s very
inexpensive, very fast, yet using good, seasonal ingredients. We’re
taking advantage of products that are at their peak.” The place is a
virtual déjà vu of its Flatiron sibling: cool glass-and-steel interiors
and a mix-and-match menu of gourmet dumplings, salad and soup, not to
mention Rickshaw’s signature chocolate-dumpling dessert. The NYU
location, however, will have a coin-operated photo booth. Smile and
hope you ain’t got any basil stuck in your teeth.
