There’s no sign of damage from the fire that delayed the opening of this warm, welcoming Italian bakery for several months. The mounds of cantuccio (a close cousin of biscotti), giant slabs of focaccia and thick crust pizza are at home in this bright, inviting café. The traditional Italian specialties emerge from a giant pietro berto oven that dominates the rear of the open kitchen. Sandwiches are served on freshly baked focaccia, stuffed with a range of Italian cured meats and cheeses. But it’s the namesake pay-by-the-pound cantuccio that dominate the scene—mix and match from a variety of flavors like a thick chocolate chunk and chewy fig. Just be forewarned, these delicacies don’t come cheap. At almost $30 per pound, you’ll be paying about $2 for every piece, making this an expensive addiction to accompany your morning coffee.
