Ost Cafe

- Price range: $ (Under $9)
Though it’s appropriately located in the artisan-coffee-obsessed East Village (Abraco, Ninth Street Espresso), this cafe—“ost” means east in German—instead evokes Eastern Europe, whose coffeehouses (in Prague, Vienna, Budapest) serve as its inspiration. As such, the dark leather banquettes and oversized sofa chairs create an inviting, bohemian vibe that encourages you to grab a magazine or newspaper lying around and settle in while sipping freshly brewed Intelligentsia coffee and nibbling flaky cherry strudel from the Hungarian Pastry Shop uptown. Though it’s difficult to enjoy latte art when shoved inside a paper cup, there’s also a takeout window for purely essential caffeination on the go.
