Ashkara's menu boasts that they serve "the ultimate falafel"—and they might just be right. The falafel and hummus sandwich is delicious; the falafel itself is just right: nice and crispy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside, and the homemade hummus and pite complement it perfectly. But the best thing about Ashkara is its free salad bar, where you can customize your sandwich with extra tomatoes, cucumbers, tabuli, olives, sauce... you name it.
Taking a cue from other LES late-night eateries, Ashkara also serves heaping orders of belgian fries, with a variety of dipping sauces. On top of everything else, Ashkara is a good bargain: a falafel sandwich, belgian fries, and a homemade juice (usually lemonade) costs less than $10.
