It's fitting that this expansive Tribeca salsa lounge and Puerto Rican restaurant is named for the spice mixture that gives Latin food its lively, unique flair. If you're looking to spice things up, you've come to the right place. Upstairs you'll find a sexy dining room serving the same authentic Puerto Rican pork and seafood-heavy specialties as Sofrito, its Midtown sibling, with plenty of plantains thrown in (though the swanky ambience bumps the prices up a few bucks). Downstairs boasts a lively lounge where the serious salsa dancing takes place. Bold colors and chandeliers meld with an Old San Juan flavor, making this a Puerto Rican counterpart to the boisterous Meat Packing Cuban favorite, Son Cubano.
