Chef Eton Chan and his wife fell so in love with Hawaiian shave ice while on their honeymoon, they hurried back to open their own tiny shave-ice-and-dumpling spot in their Carroll Gardens neighborhood. The made-to-order dumplings are stuffed to the brim with meat and veggie options, and hand-pulled noodle soup will be offered once cooler weather sets in.

In a neighborhood with more Italian ice per capita than most, Eton's Hawaiian ice options offer something new: Start with plain shaved ice and add exotic flavors like guava and lychee, then top off with unique toppings like red azuki bean or condensed milk. And in a hood that could use a late-night option, Eton stays open until 11:30 p.m. seven days a week.
