What's black and white and red all over? The answer to the silly children's riddle is "newspaper," but a more up-to-the-minute answer might be Compass. At this sleek restaurant on the Upper West Side, stately columns, bright red paintings and white walls gives it a sense of drama, while the menu gives it a stylish take on New American cooking. After a dizzying round of chef musical chairs, Compass has now lured back prodigal chef Neil Annis, who helped open the restaurant in 2002.
