East meets West at this splashy West Village gig from former E.U. chef Akhtar Nawab and Craft alum Noel Cruz, who draw on their South Asian heritage (India and the Philippines) to punch up a spice-intensive American menu. Bold ingredients mingle in appetizers like crispy pig’s feet with watercress and cashews, while main courses pack a wallop—think pomfret with coconut broth and tapioca, and wild boar with cumin, orange and vermicelli. The raw, deconstructed space—wood beams, plank floorboards—was once a music venue where Jimi Hendrix reportedly performed. Fitting, then, that the club’s stage has been transformed into the restaurant’s main act: an in-your-face open kitchen.
