Famous for its burek, housemade filo dough pies and cigars, Djerdan opens its fifth location on the Lower East Side this week. The takeout shop has just a few seats—a wooden bar made by the owner and two little tables—for digging into the made-from-scratch savories including versions stuffed with spinach, cheese, meat, potato and a seasonal special that, for Thanksgiving, will feature turkey. Croatian chicken soup and veggie-bean stew keep you warm as the temperature continues to drop, and a burger is enticingly topped with red-pepper spread and onion slices. There's Wi-Fi in case you need to check your e-mail while sipping a cup of tea, but for something a little stronger you'll have to BYO.
