What drives you crazy about the local restaurant scene?
Nothing drives me more crazy than a gimmick. There's this new lounge right now [Catch-22], it's berserk. It's a World War II-themed restaurant. If you go to the Web site, there are photographs of newsprint that say "Atom bomb hits Japs." How the hell did that happen?

Who's your favorite New York food personality?
I have a soft spot for Toby Maloney. He's incredibly talented and very clever and has a great style. He nails the dandy thing, and I don't find it obnoxious on him.
