Lotsa spice, very nice! A heated duel of the hottest recipes in town.
June 14, 2009
Coming on the heels of the successful PETA-friendly Tofu Takedown was the hottest amateur food competition yet: Curry Takedown, held on Sunday at Park Slope's Loki Lounge. The formula remained the same: local cooks prepared their meanest curry dish, guests and judges sampled a little of each and voted on their favorite, then a Curry Champ was crowned in two categories: people's choice and judges' choice. The Judges included Kumquate Cupcakery's Keavy Landreth and Cathy Erway of Not Eating Out in New York.
Kate Bryant walked away with the judges award (and $50 in cash) for her hot dog garma massala, while Melissa Sands snagged the people's choice award (and a heftier $100 prize) for her "Meow Khao Soi" noodles.
For the first time ever, Takedown proceeds went to a charitable cause: The Women's Education Project, helping women in Southern India pursue their educational goals.
