My contentment takes me down the road to Golden Key Gourmet Foods (1067 Brighton Beach Ave., 718-743-5841), a convenience store with a fruit stand spilling onto the sidewalk. Amid pineapples and peaches, I notice a sign for $1 “lemon vitamins.”

“Don’t do it, sweetie,” an old lady with red lips hazards. “That doesn’t look too appetizing.” I ignore her advice and purchase my Vim & Vigor. It contains 5 percent juice!
