What a bad idea to dine at 3 p.m. Fresh-from-school kids are crowding me like famished mongrel dogs, and even the adults are crazy for dirt-cheap pizza. Before I can order, that blonde woman to the left swoops in and demands four slices.

 “In a box,” she commands. “With extra napkins.” Can you be pushy at a buck pizza place? I meekly order. The store keeps the penny change.
