East Harlem taco tour
Before we eat, longtime East Harlemite Jose Rivera, founder of East-Harlem.com and administrator at Christo Rey High School, gives us some background on the demographic shift: “Mexicans started moving in about 15 years ago. The neighborhood is now probably 20 percent Mexican, and they're still arriving all the time.”
He also shares his thoughts on tacos: "I’m Puerto Rican and we don't have tacos. But I love them. I don’t like the crunchy ones because I don’t like the noise. But I like the soft ones because I like my food soft and juicy; I would probably love baby food."
We follow Jose’s lead and go soft.
