Perro Caliente | Cositas Ricas
June 2, 2009
The all-American hot dog adopts a Spanish accent at this bustling Colombian neighborhood spot, where the Perro Caliente comes covered in an avalanche of powdery grated parmesan cheese and crushed bits of potato chips ground into a fine dust. The plump, snappy dog is coated in mayo and a fruity tropical Hawaiian pineapple sauce, which bleeds into the hot, fluffy bun, making its interior wonderfully soft and chewy. The unique addition of potato chips gives this Latin hot dog a slight crunch and contrasting texture—just expect a messy flurry of specks to fall with each successive bite. (Price: $3)
Bitchin’ rating: 3 stars
A tasty take, but be prepared to order an extra round of agua: Between the meat, the cheese, and the potato chips, this dog is salty, salty, salty.
