Hey, this is New York: Competition is fierce and trends come and go, and though the iconic dirty-water wiener is here to stay, its prevalence has certainly been threatened by an abundance of halal carts and taco trucks of late.
So it's a good thing that the city has a slew of specialty shops that offer up snappy, souped-up hot dogs made from a variety of meats and dressed up with unconventional toppings. Herewith, the best in show. —Cristina Velocci
