As July 4 approaches, bringing memories of family picnics, apple pie and crushing hangovers of years past, we were inspired to scour NYC looking for restaurants and bars brave enough to portend their “American-ness” right in their name (see: Bar Americain, Sage American Kitchen, American Girl Café). But, really, how American are these joints?
The list is diverse—from high-end brasseries to a dive bar with proudly humble aspirations—but they all find a way to celebrate their own special brand of patriotism. —Jeremy Cesarec
