Queen of Sheba
- Neighborhood: Midtown West
- 650 Tenth Ave.
- New York, NY 10036
- 212-397-0610
- Price range: $$$ ($16-$25)
No longer a frightful strip of Hell's Kitchen real estate, burgeoning Tenth Avenue is the home of this authentic, art-adorned Ethiopian restaurant, which evokes the name of the biblical African queen who may or not have baked Solomon's bread in her oven. As is the custom, start with Injera, a large, hot, pancake-shaped bread-grain that is meant to be shared and ripped off to scoop the various slow-cooked and spicy sauces, like red pepper-based Berbere. If it's your first time, order a sampler, which can include Tibs Wot (seared, diced lean beef), Menchet Abesh Alecha (seasoned ground beef with onions and ginger) and Yebeg Wot (lamb stew). The chef, Philipos Mengistu, is an active member of the city's culinary community.

Need to go for seconds
I went to a food event last night with many restaurants featured, and there were many delicious dishes that I tried that I now need to eat in full instead of a sample! These were some of my favorites.
