Bar Blanc Bistro: User Reviews

After reading the reviews in Esquire's Top New Restaurants of 2008 I brought a group of business colleagues to Bar Blanc during a recent trip. We are all in the industry so were excited to try something new - to be WOW'ed. Well, we were WOW'ed but in a completely negative way.

Not only were they serving a limited menu on Sunday but they were out of half of the menu options. This was very disappointing since we had all been studying the menu online and all knew what we wanted to order prior to sitting down. In looking around, we were one of three tables filled in the restaurant. How could they be out of so much food? Twice the waiter came back even after we ordered with substitutes to items that they no longer had. I would like to say that Bar Blanc made up for its lack of menu options with great service but I fear that our waiter was afraid to come back to the table after delivering such negative news. And both the host and the chef looked (or glared, rather) at us constantly during the meal. You would think they would be apologizing to us for the poor service but instead we were met with icey stares. I felt as if we should have been offered accomodations by the house but instead felt as though we were in the wrong for expecting more.

The food was not altogether bad but it was not great either - certainly not up to the hype. The only cool thing about the place was the space. It is beautifully decorated and a cool building. Had I had been treated well I would possibly return for a drink. But I would not recommend Bar Blanc to anyone. Save your money.
